The aims of the project were: to evaluate methods to assess building damage that could result from tropical cyclone storm surge; to provide information for storm surge emergency planning. The ANUSURGE (which is a computer package designed to assess building damage from river flooding, with modifications for use with storm surge inundation) methodology is applicable to any location at risk from storm surge. It would be especially suitable for small island states in the Pacific. The only limitations are that: scientifically-based estimates of storm surge probabilities are available; it would be necessary to assemble data to construct stage-damage curves applicable to the region under study
