The aim of the workshop was to examine emergency management issues related to the response to a chemical agent release in Australia. The issues examined included: 1) the adequacy of current technical and medical arrangements to respond to a release of one of these agents in Australia; 2) respective Commonwealth and State responsibilities; 3) identification and sources of special equipment that might be required by civil agencies responding to such incidents; 4) identification and source of training required by civilian agencies; 5) an indication of the costs involved; and, 6) the public awareness and media liaison issues that would need to be addressed during a release incident
