Subject: This manual has been especially prepared for the use of Queensland Lifeline Centres, Uniting Church/Lifeline representatives on District Community Recovery Committees and Presbytery Chairpersons. However much of the material will have relevance for any workers involved in disaster recovery. Its purposes include clarification of the role of the Uniting Church, primarily through Lifeline, in disaster recovery; the provision of reference material for working with disaster affected individuals and communities; outlining a method and process for training both paid staff and voluntary workers, including the essential topics to be covered in the course; and to draw together some helpful resource material. The emphasis upon a structured approach through the Uniting Church which flows through this manual is an essential one if the role is to be effective. The manual begins with the role of the Uniting Church/Lifeline in Queensland and then moves to the philosophy and practice of disaster recovery programs. Having established this role and practice, the third and fourth sections address the training needs of recovery workers. Finally attention is directed to some of the resource materials available
