The Main Roads Traffic Operations Centre plays a vital role in the management and monitoring of traffic flow on the metropolitan and key regional road networks. Its Traffic Incident Response System operates traffic lights, various message signs and traffic monitoring cameras, emergency services and on-site support, incident management policies and procedures and public and media notification systems. The linchpin of the program is the Contingency and Incident Response System introduced in 2006. It is an easy to use, step by step system that captures all information electronically to effectively manage an incident when it occurs. Quick access to 150 contingency plans enables improved deployment of traffic diversions and advisory signs. The plan incorporates the needs of all types of road users. The accompanying DVD contains a promotional video, as well as a video on: Backgropund to the Traffic Operations Centre. It is presented in a convenient letterboxed version.
