Subject: At 9.52am on December 21, 1994 a Boeing 737 with 5 people on board crashed into a wood next to a housing estate in Coventry. This videotape examines the response of the local authority to this disaster. The initial response was to activate the Council's emergency plan, despatch a Forward Emergency Controller to the scene and convene the Joint Decision Making Group. This group made policy decisions, and coordinated the Council's reponse, both on the day of the disaster and in the weeks following. The Council set up a rest centre for evacuees in a nearby school, provided counselling services, and began the clean up of the site. As the responsible authority for the airport, the Council was called upon by the Press to comment. The speed and scale of media demands was the major lesson to arise from the disaster
