It reminds us of the intensity of the storm which battered the coastline between Newcastle and the Central Coast, pushing a shockwave through our community. But no one anticipated what was to come. A deluge of cyclonic proportions produced an unparalleled flood in suburban Newcastle, and throughout the Central Coast. Then the impact of the torrential rain showed in the streams and rivers of the Hunter and Williams valleys, flooding towns and farmland - and to make things even worse, 120 kilometre an hour winds smashed into the coastal strip, flattening trees and damaging buildings - Nine people lost their lives.
