Sexual violence in humanitarian emergencies is a serious public health and human rights issue. Information about sexual violence in emergency settings is collected for a number of reasons. This document lays down an ethical framework for the collection of this information. This framework includes institutional research protocols and policies, protocols and practices for providing direct services to survivors, procedures for obtaining consent, standards and policies for human rights investigations, organizational policies for staff recruitment, and internationally agreed standards for research involving human subjects.
