The Inner West Community Safety Plan was set up as a response to a chemical spill at the Dynon Rd rail yards in 1989. An attempted evacuation of 6000 residents was not succesful. The Plan aims to improve communications between residents and the authorities during emergencies, develop strategies that would increase the safety of the public during these incidents, and create an education program of preparedness and awareness to ensure the readiness of the community to react to any form of emergency including evacuation should the need arise
