This paper seeks to explore whether there are specific bushfire community education tools which can be targeted to specific population groups. The research was carried out in Indigo Shire, situated in the northeast region of Victoria. Using a documentary research approach key data was collected to identify the specific characteristics of each of the selected population groups, and to identify bushfire community education programs which are targeted to particular community sectors. The research indicated that the more traditional methods of communication are more successful in getting the intended message out than is new-fangled technology such as the internet. It also indicated that most education programs were more applicable to the general community, and this left certain groups (the newly-arrived, the frail, the elderly) more vulnerable.
