Review: Emergency management in Australia has been shifting from a response focus to a broader consequence management focus during the past ten years. In Western Australia legislative change has formalised agency roles in emergency management. During this time emergency management has often been driven by individuals within agencies through their knowledge, passion and commitment to emergency management. This paper seeks to present an understanding about the people championing emergency management in Western Australia and explore what is known and not known about these champions of emergency management. Questionnaires and interviews were used on six individuals identified as "Emergency Management Champions" in Western Australian emergency management agencies.
