Review: Although all levels of government in Australia have obligations as far as emergency management planning is concerned, there is limited guidance from the state level as to how these obligations should be fulfilled at a local level. The research for this project reveals that currently there is no accepted national standard for content and document management of local emergency plans. This means that plans are diverse in their presentation and quality, as well as having other deficiencies. Development of standards for local emergency plans is identified in the project as one method to improve the efficiency of effort of local governments in emergency management.
