Very large cities, or 'megacities' are a comparitively recent phenomenon, especially in the developing world where they are now emerging with great rapidity. These megacities vary in their vulnerability to disaster, and it is not clear whether they are all experiencing increased vulnerability to disaster. However, there is clear evidence that very large cities have enormous potential for disaster creation
