All agencies involved in the Council have psychological support programs for their career/volunteer staff and their families. These are well structured programs which have proved to be successful and well accepted by emergency services personnel. Agency programs have been developed independently, but along similar lines. Given recent debate about the value of debriefing and instances of bad debriefing practices, there is a need for a position statement and code of practice for these services
