'Kings Cross : beneath the inferno'; a fire in London's busiest Underground station took 2 hours to extinguish and left 31 dead -- 'Piper Alpha : requiem for the Piper' - explosion on a North Sea oil production platform, in which 167 died. There were 62 survivors. -- 'Lockerbie : the longest night'; a bomb on board a Pan Am 747 killed 259 passengers and crew, and 11 on the ground, when wreckage fell on the town of Lockerbie -- 'Hillsborough : the gates of hell'; 96 people died, and 400 were hospitalized when police opened gates at the Hillsboruogh football stadium, causing crushing overcrowding
