The Alquist-Priolo Special Studies Zones Act requires California real estate agents or sellers to inform prospective home buyers if the property being sold lies within 1/8 mile of a trace of an active earthquake fault. Surveys were conducted which revealed the ineffectiveness of this law: it has failed to produce a measurable response either in buyer behavior or housing price trends
