Subject: A joint initiative of the IDNDR National Committees of the European Union member states and the European Community Humanitarian Office. This report contains examples of the work being carried out within the region with respect to natural disasters. Proposes the following priorities for the second half of the decade 1) promotion of human resources development and institutional strengthening for disaster reduction in developing countries; 2) implementation of small, community based projects with a potential for enhancing local capacity; 3) establishment of networks between European institutions and those in developing countries; 4) promotion of activities in developing countries aimed at integrating disaster preparedness into development programmes
