This report is a first attempt to put into perspective the nature of volcanic hazards in Papua New Guinea, the problems that they present and the efforts that are being made to cope with them. There has until now been no single reference work which defines the problems that exist and quantifies them in terms that can be understood by all. In this report the distribution of all active and dormant volcanoes is described and details are given of their geographic locations, the sizes of the hazardous areas surrounding them, and the numbers of people living within these
