The objective of the Tsunami Warning Service is to provide accurate and reliable tsunami warning services within the shortest possible time frame of the tsunamigenesis in order to protect life and property within the tsunami risk zone of the Pacific basin. Considering the level of todays technology, it should, with an appropriate distribution of centres, be possible to achieve warning distribution to effected populations within 20 minutes of tsunamigenesis. A secondary objective is to adequately inform and educate all persons living within tsunami risk zones so that they are properly prepared to respond to the warnings when issued.
