In addition, the meeting served to ascertain the interest in the region for participation in a framework of international cooperation to monitor the role of geological data in on-going and future urban development projects in several cities at the same time, and search the region for areas designated for major urban and/or industrial construction that could provide parallel case studies within the context of a proposed ESCAP comparative study project entitled Environmental and Urban Geology for Sustainable Development of Fast-Growing Cities.
