Six counties were initially declared eligible for Public Assistance, and Individual Assistance. Between July 22 and 27 twenty-nine more counties were added, seventeen additional counties were declared through August 16th. A total of 52 counties out of 93 have been declared. Public Assistance losses are expected to be $44 million with damages to bridges, levees, culverts, roads, wastewater facilities, and water treatment plants. In addition to the direct losses, 5,471,914 acres of agricultural crops were flooded and total crop losses are estimated to be $317 million. The information and recommendations contained in this report are the product of an interdisciplinary and interjurisdictional team convened under the authority of the Stafford Disaster Relief Act and Executive Order. It is the objective of the Interagency Hazard Mitigation Team (IHMT) that the information and recommedations in this report will lead to actions by Federal, State, local governments and citizens to break the cycle of repetitive flood damage in Nebraska.
