Disaster plan stands test of hurricane.

By: Material type: TextTextLanguage: ENG Publication details: JUN 1993Description: 6 p. : illSubject: Bellsouth Advertising and Publishing Co's (BAPCO) human-oriented disaster plan helped the firm cope with the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Andrew in August 1992. The hurricane caused extensive damage to the Atlanta-based company's Florida facilities and adversely affected over 85% of its 430 south Florida employees. It was quite opportune that, seven months before the disaster struck, BAPCO implemented a disaster plan `just in case.' A crisis management team was created and trained with the help of consultant Crisis Management International (CMI). The CMI training was intended to educate the team about what traumatic stress is, how its effects on employees can affect the company, how this impact can be mitigated and how to expedite the recovery process. Because it was prepared for any disaster, BAPCO was back in business quickly while other companies were still in utter chaos
