It is convenient to subdivide adjustments to natural hazards into six classes, according to function: 1/ protective works; 2/ land use management; 3/ warning systems; 4/ insurance; 5/ relief and rehabilitation; and 6/ modification of the natural event. This report treats adjustments in the class, protective works primarily, but all others are mentioned. This report assesses the need for further research on technological adjustments.
