An account of a process of community rebuilding which is continuing in the Newcastle area following the disastrous earthquake of 28 December 1989. For twelve months from the 31 July 1990 to August 1991, the Office of Local Government, Department of Local Government and Ethnic Affairs provided funds to the Newcastle City Council to implement what became known as Social Issues Coordination programme. The Unit itself was the initiative of the Newcastle City Council and funded by the State and Commonwealth Disaster Funds.
