This report was produced as a contribution to the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction
A synthesis of the natural hazard experience of the Department of Regional Development and Environment of the Organization of American States (OAS/DRDE), argues that the most effective approach to reducing the long-term impact of natural hazards is to incorporate natural hazard assessment and mitigation activities into the process of integrated development planning and investment project formulation and implementation. This book is directed towards decision-makers in the member states and in development assisstance agencies with the hope of influencing them.
