Data indicate that the mental health needs of elderly disaster victims were met by a variety of organisations that provided a wide range of services. Although psychological support and concrete aid were provided by organisations both in and out of the aging network, the majority of services were provided by agencies who have as their target population "those in need" and not the elderly per se. The findings suggest a complex interaction of organisational and community variables that influence the formation and operation of inter-organisation networks. The importance of educating service planners regarding the importance of pre-planning for their agency is emphasized: service providers must take specific steps to describe how their agency will provide disaster relief and who will be responsible for those services.Subject: TexasSubject: Tornadoes
