Of the 211 Municipal areas in Victoria, 36 suffered some damage in the fire. This review was seen as providing an opportunity to assess the various disaster management arrangements which had been instituted following the Ash Wednesday Fires of February 1983, particularly concerning the local government responses. The review identified a number issues that were of concern and provided a number of recommendations.
