Its purpose was to provide follow-up services for one year to home owners, farmers, and business persons whose homes and/or livelihood had been damged by the tornado. The goals of the Center were: to provide financial guidance, counselling, information and referral, and client advocacy. In time, it focused on other areas, such as housing relocation, reforestation, and public works projects. The Center also was responsible for ongoing volunteer solicitation and coordination, for developing several recreational and educational programs, and for preparing and distributing a newsletter for victims. By providing these services, the Center allowed local government to concentrate on other operations that had been delayed by the disaster.
