Hazard maps of volcanos have been introduced to guide the local administrator to arrange the safety of people living in menaced areas along the volcanic slopes. For the purpose of safeguarding the community on Merapi volcanic slopes a general instruction is issued containing the measures to be taken, before during and after the eruption. A Volcanic Debris Control Project Office has also been called into existence to limit the possible destruction by volcanic eruptions. Effective measures on Community Preparedness and Disaster Prevention on the Merapi Volcano show that during the last decades not only a decrease of victims is observed, but a decrease of devastation of arable land as well
