Using a furnace operating between 600 degrees C and 1000 degrees C as the variable radiant heat source, the difference in thermal transmission of the four fabrics was found to be negligible. Observations on the times taken for smoking and charring to begin indicate that Proban cotton performs better than the other three fabrics .550.
