Summary: One of Britain's most terrible railway disasters was the 1879 Tay Bridge disaster, when everyone on board a passenger train were killed when the central section of the bridge toppled into the Firth of Tay. There are many theories as to exactly why the original Tay Bridge collapsed in 1879. Some of these theories are complicated, others rely on unproven mathematical solutions. Can modern forensic methods, combined with photographs taken at the time of the disaster, solve theproblem once and for all?
